A Modern Bivvy Can Be A Home From Home
Back in the days when I was regularly night fishing with a fishing buddy, the only shelter we had was a 4ft umbrella. We often retired to the van to warm up with hot coffee. What we would have given for a 2 man bivvy! We had made ourselves a rear and side cover from some tarpauline to improve the comfort. I spent an awful lot of nights sitting just on a seat box. The light output from that old lamp was truly amazing, often too much, and we were kept cosy by the heat output from it, and could even warm our pies and pasties on it which helped warm the inner man.
How times have changed! In comparison, todays night anglers are positively spoiled. Todays top of the range bivies, like the trakker armo bivvy, are a world apart in terms of comfort. With fully enclosed “living quarters”, tables , chairs, beds and sleeping bags, the modern angler has it easy!
Many anglers have more than one bivvy. One lightweight for general simple shelterfor summer use, and a second rigid frame version for the more serious sessions in the winter.
Choosing the right bivvy can often be a personal thing, we all have individual preferences. Make sure the one you choose is right for you and your fishing style, we all have different requirements!
There is a whole range of budgets to suit all pockets, though you should make sure that when you look at the prices. Make sure that you have included all the functions you are going to need. It is often more economical to buy the higher price unit, if the lower cost one will need for you buy lots of addons to get the same functionality. The lower price bargain bivvies will often not last as long as the top range models, so will end up more expensive in the end.
So when looking for a bivvy consider the above features, always choose one of the reputable manufacturers and remember that the quality product will generally require the higher investment, you wont regret it in the long run and your bivvy will last you many years and keep you dry and warm on the bank. However, even modern cheap bivvies can be a good investment because of the rapid advances in materials technology. You should check with other anglers for advice on what is good and what is not. If you have the opportunity, you should always do a trial run at errecting a bivvy before buying.
