Bass Fishing

My husband and I live on one of the premier walleye fishing lakes in the state of Minnesota. We moved here about five years back and have loved every minute of it. We have always enjoyed walleye fishing. I was shocked when my husband started taking an interest in bass fishing. There are many articles in the sporting magazines about fishing for large mouth bass, but we hadn’t fished for them. My husband asserted we had enough walleye in the fridge and could catch more any time, but he would have liked to engage in the game of fishing for large mouth bass.

I enjoy being out in the ship and getting a tan, so I did not really care what my hubby was fishing for. Then one day we were out on the lake and he caught a large bass casting into shallow water. I was amazed at the look of this gorgeous fish jumping out of the water, shaking his head making an attempt to shed the hook in his mouth. I had been relaxing in the sun reading a book when the fun started. My husband instructed me to get the net. I stood with the net and observed the massive bass leap out of the water again. Following the jump my husband’s’s fishing rod almost doubled over as the fish bore down into the lake. This battle went on for roughly five minutes before we finally had the large mouth bass in the boat. We took photographs and then released this superb fighter.

After witnessing the excitement my husband had in hooking the giant bass I said I needed to give it a try. After only three casts I felt a jolt at the end of the fishing rod and then a strong pulling. I have been fishing for a number of years and couldn’t believe the power of that fish. He swam under the boat to try to get rid of the hook. He then took an air borne leap from the water. The jump in the air threw the hook from his mouth. It was the most stirring fish I ever lost! I knew why my partner had switched to fishing for large mouth bass.

Fishing for bass requires the utilization of synthetic lures. There’s a huge selection of lures in varied shapes and sizes. In the past I haven’t taken notice when my hubby is choosing lures, but with bass fishing I have started my personal tackle box. What an incredibly fun fish to catch. I don’t take a book along in the boat when we are searching for large mouth bass.
