Catching sailfish offshore in Key West

Over the years my man and I have been fortunate enough to take many holidays.  Some of our trips have concerned going to other countries and others have involved packing up the camping gear and boat and heading for the lakes area.  Whatever what our destination our trips usually involve some outside activities, as we both enjoy passing time outside. 

A few years ago we took a trip to Mexico.  Our priest gave us the name and number of a couple that he knows that own a condominium and a deep sea fishing ship in the area we were staying in.  He informed us that he would call them ahead and make them aware that we’d contact them when we arrived. 

We arrived in Mexico to wonderfully good weather.  After we checked into our hotel and spent a few hours on the beach we called the couple and made arrangements to go out deep sea fishing.  The morning of the fishing trip we found the jetty where they have their boat docked.  They have a big vessel with a raised captain platform and a pleasant cabin area.  They hire a captain that knows the area for deep sea fishing.  There had been also a young man to help us with the baiting of the giant tackle that is used to catch the fish.  We started out from the marina at about 6 o’clock in the morning.  We traveled twenty 6 miles out to be in the best area for striped marlin. 

After we had been traveling for approximately forty mins I spotted that my man’s color was a bit off.  I was going to ask him if he was alright when he leaned over the edge to the boat to puke.  He has traditionally been sensitive to motion and the movement of the ship with the hint of the bait and diesel fuel was getting to him.  He had taken medicine before getting on the boat ; however it was not helping him.  Just as our host was asking if we wanted to return to shore the bait boy indicated that there was a fish on one of the lines.  My man sat in the chair and got given the rod.  It took him over thirty mins to land the a hundred and 40 pound marlin.  In between reeling in the fish and giving it more line he was throwing up into a pail.

Shortly after his fish was released I hooked a 40 five Mahi Mahi they were very excited about this because it’s so good to eat.  By this time my hubby had the dry heaves so bad we wanted to return to shore.  When we turned up at the dock my hubby instructed me to take plenty of pictures as we would never be going deep sea fishing together again.  It took him the remained of the day to recuperate.
