Walleye fishing tips with Artificials jigs
When fishing for walleye the smart walleye angler understands there is a need to know how to use walleye fishing lures as well as using live bait. Although live bait accounts for the majority of walleyes caught by fisherman, there are many times when fishing artificial walleye baits work better.
Here’s a good walleye fishing tip when walleyes are scattered. Troll or cast walleye fishing lures to cover a lot of water quickly. Once you find a school and catch all the aggressive fish the action will slow,but if you switch to live bait for walleye you may be able to catch a few more fish.
When you are fishing for walleyes in unfamiliar waters one of the best ways to find fish is by trolling with walleye lures. Make sure you keep a keen eye on your depth finder when you are following structure lines. Look for schools of fish, points and inside turns on the breakline areas of hard bottom.Make sure you have spot markers on your boat and when you get a strike or locate a potential good walleye fishing spot, toss out a marker so you can return later.
Artificial walleye lures and jigs often work better then live bait in fast moving or low clarity water. Another great walleye fishing tips is to remember that walleyes located in strong current have very little time to inspect their food and will strike at any thing flashy or any sudden movement. Understanding the water clarity of the waters you intend to fish is so very important. for example walleye in murky water can only see a few inches, but they can hear and feel vibrations.
Many walleye anglers prefer lures for night fishing. Walleyes can spot the silhouette of a lure against the surface more easily then they can see bait hanging from a bobber or moving slowly along the bottom. Lets not forget too it’s much easier to fish artificials at night because you do not have to bait your hook.
When you are fishing for walleyes and they are on a feeding binge, you can catch them more quickly with lures than with live bait. In the time it would take to remove your old minnow and hook on a fresh one, you can cast a lure and possibly catch another fish.
